HeaL tHe wOrLd, my pEopLe

ok, so we got an 8 . something quake last year followed by a massive tsunami that killed over 150,000 people. that was in 2004. In 2005 we have a few quakes including the recent one in pakistan that killed a few thousands, Hurricane Katrina, and a few typhoons in southeast asia...thats in 2005. America's been hit, China and Japan's been hit...the middle easts' been hit...and there's only one thing I really do fear now...are we next?

Has anyone really stopped to think...what we're doing to the earth today...wastage, pollution, destruction, killing, people crying, people dying, yet we still go on as if nothing had happened. Natural disasters are far from 'natural'. They remind us about what we're doing on this world. you think we get to live on earth for free? Damn it, there's something called stewardship you know. (forgive me i know i'm a geography student) since we live on this planet, it's our duty to protect it. but all we're doing is destroying what we need to survive. So what if we make money out of logging, dumping and throwing waste all over the place? if this continues, money will be the least of our problems.

Mother Earth is mad; real mad, and we need to act fast if we want to cool her down. She's sending down all these calamities to tell us that she's in pain, and we'd better stop it before she really blows her top. Earth's not on our side, and with our resources diminishing at a rate far from calculable, we have, maybe, say, a generation or two left? I have absolutely no idea, but it's always just a conjecture. This is what I think. We treat mother earth bad, and she'll return the pain back to us tenfold. I think the tsunami last year makes clear that point.

Ok, so what if singapore's in a position favourable to us because we're clear of natural disasters? So what if we're sitting smack in the middle of a tectonic plate that hardly moves; so what is there're no faults, cracks and volcanoes? When mother earth gets mad, she just snaps a finger and all those mentioned above become a reality. we may be last on the list, but if it's going to happen, then it will. Earthquakes measuring 8 on the richter scale are dwarfed by what's going to come. soon even the richter scale will become useless when the mother of all quakes comes crashing down upon us. World War III is not started by man nor machine, but by the land, oceans, skies and seas themselves. And when the world comes to an end, the winner is what we're standing on today...

So what makes us so scared of what might happen in the future? That fact that our future generations may not get a chance to exist as they please, or even, there may not even be a future generation. My point is, we need to stop what we're doing that harms mother earth now, and start taking care of her like she deserves to be. She took care of us for the past 60 plus million years, and it's about time we repay her kindness and care.

Warning: This is not a rally speech for budding environmentalists. Take care of mother earth, and she'll take care of you. You have been warned.
